Oregon County Library District

Internet Use Policy

Policy for using computers and the internet.

The Oregon County Library District computer policy is in compliance with CIPA/hb 1402.

The Oregon County Library District has no control over the content and assumes no responsibility for the quality, accuracy or currency of an internet source.  The internet is a worldwide community, with a highly diverse user population.  It is the patron's responsibility to use this resource wisely. Internet sources accessible through the libraries are provided equally to all library users.

CHILDREN'S USE OF COMPUTERS
Parents or guardians, not the Oregon County Library District Board or library staff, are responsible for information accessed on the internet. Approval must be provided by a parent or guardian for children 16 and under before a child will be allowed to use the library internet computers. As with all library resources, the library affirms the right and responsibility of parents/guardians, not library staff, to determine and monitor their children's use of the internet. Minors are defined in this policy as children and young people under the age of 17 years. Parents are responsible for their minor children's use of library resources and facilities. Parents who believe that their children cannot responsibly use the library's internet access are requested to monitor their children's internet use.

Parents are strongly advised to supervise their children's internet sessions.

Children twelve (12) years of age and younger must have a parent or guardian present during use of library internet computers.
